REPORT – SAMBHAV ’22 “ YES WE CAN”.
Centre for disability research and training organised SAMBHAV 22’ an awareness and sensitising simulation workshop on 9th September 2022. The event took place in the canteen lawn, Kirori Mal College between 1 PM to 5PM. The prime objective of this flagship event was twofold .First to promote the centre and disseminate information about its multifarious activities. For this purpose an exhibition showcasing various initiatives and events organised in the previous academic year was assembled. Secondly and more importantly Sambhav aimed at creating an awareness about the day to day functioning of persons with disabilities and the challenges they face during routine activities. The Workshop included events like:
- Indian Sign Language: A Counter was set up where participants engaged with Indian sign language as a medium for communication. Basic conversation and phrases in ISL were taught by volunteers along with salutations, names of days of the week, Colours e.t.c.

- TIC TAC TOE: The participants of the workshop were made to play a game of tic tac toe with blindfolds. The purpose of the game was to make the participants aware of their tactile skills.
- Race: The participants played in teams of two where one player was blindfolded and the companion had to guide them towards the finishing line. The players were tethered together at wrist and verbal communication and trust building was exercised.
- Blind Cricket: the participants were also given the unique chance of playing a match of cricket blindfolded. Sound balls were used for the same. The purpose of the exercise was to make the participants attuned to their listening skills.

- Musical chairs: Participants had to engage in a game of musical chairs with blindfolds on by tracing the field with the sense of touch throughout the game.

- Treasure Hunt: the most popular activity of the workshop. Organised in 4 rounds the treasure hunt worked on sensitising people about more than one disability. The first round was played in ISL. The second round was played blindfolded the participants had to guide their companions for the third round and the fourth round was played as a three legged relay.

The event saw a footfall of 86 participants along with 25 volunteers from the centre. Feedback was recorded in both written and video format in order to improve the quality of events centre organises in the future.
