The Accessible Film Fiesta, hosted by the Center for Disability Research and Training (CDRT) in collaboration with the Saksham organisation, took place on September 15, 2023, at the Academic Auditorium of Kirori Mal College (KMC). This event was driven by the core mission of making cinema accessible to everyone and fostering a more inclusive community. With an enthusiastic turnout of nearly 50 participants, the festa primarily focused on raising awareness about the importance of cultural accessibility and inclusivity within the world of cinema.

The festival showcased two exceptional films, “Barfi” and “Hichki,” carefully selected for their compelling narratives and outstanding contributions to promoting inclusivity in cinema. Both films were screened with closed captioning and audio description services, guaranteeing that individuals with varying levels of sensory abilities could fully engage with and enjoy the cinematic experience. Following the screenings, the attendees actively engaged in discussions, sharing their thoughts, insights, and personal experiences. This interactive component of the festa served as a platform for fostering dialogue around the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in cinema.

The Accessible Film Fiesta marked a significant stride towards creating a more accessible and inclusive cinematic environment for all. By celebrating and championing films that prioritise inclusivity, CDRT and Saksham organisation have taken a commendable step in the right direction, encouraging a more diverse and welcoming film culture.
