Organised by: Centre for Disability Research and Training (CDRT), Kirori Mal College in collaboration with the Saksham Foundation

Venue: Kirori Mal College

Date: 12th October, 2023 onwards

Commencing on October 12th, 2023, the Centre for Disability Research and Training (CDRT), in collaboration with the Saksham Foundation, launched “Prashikshan 2.0,” a 30-hour certificate training program. The program aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to convert study materials into accessible formats, thus promoting inclusivity in higher education for students with blindness and print disabilities.

The inaugural session of Prashikshan 2.0 marked the beginning of a transformative journey towards inclusivity in education. Participants were introduced to the significance of accessible formats in enabling equal access to educational resources. The session highlighted the challenges faced by students with blindness and print disabilities and the role of accessible materials in overcoming these challenges.

The subsequent sessions focused on practical training in converting study materials into accessible formats. Participants were trained in using various tools and techniques to create accessible documents, including Braille, audio, and digital formats. The hands-on approach allowed participants to develop proficiency in converting a wide range of educational materials, from textbooks to lecture notes.

The latter sessions of the program delved into advanced topics, such as creating accessible graphics and diagrams, ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies, and complying with accessibility standards. The sessions also emphasised the importance of quality assurance in creating accessible materials, ensuring that they meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

Prashikshan 2.0 concluded with a sense of accomplishment and a commitment to promoting inclusivity in higher education. Participants emerged with a newfound understanding of accessibility and the skills needed to create accessible materials.
