SANKALP

Disability Outreach Initiative

The establishment of the Centre for Disability Research and Training in 2021, which is perhaps the first of its kind to be set up in a college in India, is in keeping with Kirori Mal College’s longstanding egalitarian ethos and inclusive pedagogical practices.

It has been our endeavour at the Centre to popularise disability studies as a legitimate field of intellectual inquiry within Indian academia, promote concerted research in the area, spread awareness about disability, foster a culture of disability allyship in society at large, and undertake steps to provide students with disabilities with a wholesome inclusive educational experience both on campus and beyond.

A graphic of four hands connected by holding each other's wrists, forming a square. The colorful hands, wearing sleeves in shades of orange, brown, teal, and navy, suggest collaboration and teamwork. The background is plain with scattered colorful dots.

But more importantly, the Centre, under its vision—SANKALP—strives to assist and facilitate other higher educational institutions across the country to create similar centres within their respective campuses.

Many colleges and universities have approached the Centre to guide and partner with them in their efforts to develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses and carry out practical and theoretical research within the emerging discipline of Disability Studies.

For this purpose, we have entered into Memorandum of understanding with these institutions with the objective of furthering disability inclusion on their campuses by accommodating their PwD students within a flexible curriculum and teaching and learning processes.
