
Event: “Antardrishti” – an Academic cum Sensitisation workshop

On the 18th of February the Centre for Disability Research and Training, Kirori Mal
College received a warm welcome by students of Gargi College, where they conducted
a three hour long academic cum sensitization disability awareness workshop in the
Seminar hall, Gargi College.
The session started by a brief introduction to disability and explored the subject by
watching a short film which conveyed the emotion and experience of people with
disabilities. This was followed by a dynamic discussion exploring the concept and
challenges in ableist world.
The workshop also featured interactive activities where the participants were
blindfolded and made to carry out daily activities, as to simulate the experience of
blindness. This was followed by a short but powerful skit ‘The Big Lie’ which portrayed
and highlighted societies condescending attitudes towards disability and challenged
societal perspectives towards people with disabilities. The workshop concluded with an
academic presentation on disability and humour titled, ‘‘Unpacking Disability Humour
in Firdaus Kanga Trying to Grow.”
The workshop proved to be an eye-opening experience for the students of Gargi College
who conveyed their heartfelt for the opportunity to participate and concluded by a vote
of thanks presented by Dr. Modita Mohile and Dr. Krishna Kumar.
