REPORT OF THE TALK ON EYE DONATION.
On 13th September 2022 Centre for Disability Research and training in collaboration with Prayas ; The Enabling unit, Kirori Mal College and Saksham Inderprastha organised a awareness talk on the issue of eye donation. The Event was organised under the rubric of azadi ka amrit mahotsav commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence and was held in the academic auditorium of the College. The Speaker for the session was Dr. Noopur Pandey from Delhi Lions eye centre, New Delhi. With her specialisation in the field of ophthalmology she gave a presentation on eye donation. She discussed the procedure of eye donation followed by the legal aspects of the process. She also outlined how the family of a potential donor plays an important role in honouring their pledge to donate vision to another. Furthermore she explained how anatomically eyes can be transplanted, what are the challenges one might face during donation. She also explained the proper care regime to make sure you preserve and respect the gift of sight. The talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session where crucial queries were answered. The event was attended by 54 participants and 38 of them signed a pledge to donate their eyes. The event succeeded in its goal of creating an awareness of existing medical procedures that can be instrumental at improving someone’s quality of life.
