REPORT OF THE EVENT

Disability studies is a rapidly growing field of academic enquiry in the world today. In India however, the discipline is still in a gestative stage of development. For this reason, the Centre for Disability Research and Training, Kirori Mal College felt the need to acquaint the undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the country with the various research possibilities that disability studies offers by organising an international webinar- “WHY DOES DISABILITY RESEARCH MATTER?” consisting of 11 lectures spread over 5 days from 4th of October 2020 to 8th of October, 2020. The webinar was truly interdisciplinary in its range covering a vast array of disciplines from literature, cultural studies, sociology, political science, psychology, philosophy, law and inclusive designs. In less than a week, the Centre enabled young scholars from India to acquaint themselves with and interact with internationally established disability study scholars ranging from Prof Nicholas Watson, Prof Dan Goodley and Prof Stephen Kuusisto to Prof Eva Feder Kittay, Prof Margrit Shildrick and Prof. Lennard Davis. Not surprisingly 440 participants from all over the country registered for this star-studded and highly informative event.
