Organised by: Centre for Disability Research and Training at Kirori Mal College in collaboration with CBM India Trust and Atelier Theatre
Date: 7th February, 2024 onwards
The ‘Khwaab’ theatre workshop, organised by the Centre for Disability Research and Training (CDRT) in collaboration with CBM India Trust and Atelier Theatre, commenced on 7th February 2024. This workshop aimed to explore theatre as an inclusive space, covering various aspects such as scriptwriting, breathing techniques, and disability representation in cinema. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in discussions, practical exercises, and creative activities to deepen their understanding of theatre and disability representation.

The workshop was conducted weekly, each session focusing on different aspects of theatre and disability representation. These include introducing participants to the basics of scriptwriting, memory exercises to build group cohesion, breathing techniques and vocalisation skills essential for theatrical performances, along with discussions on disability representation in cinema.

Other sessions delved into various theatre theories and engaged participants in practical improvisation exercises, enhancing their performance skills and understanding of storytelling. They also emphasised physical awareness through yogic movements and script development. Participants reflected on the theme of agency among people with disabilities, culminating in performances that showcased their creativity and understanding.

Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to explore alternative sensory perceptions and experiences, challenging their own beliefs and stereotypes regarding people with disabilities. The workshop provided a supportive environment for participants to enhance their skills, creativity, and empathy. Overall, the ‘Khwaab’ workshop exemplified CDRT’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowerment through innovative initiatives in the arts.
