Event: Parakh’23 (An Online Sensitisation Workshop)
Organised by: Centre for Disability Research and Training (CDRT), Kirori Mal College
Platform: Google Meet
Date: 02 December, 2023
The Centre for Disability Research and Training, Kirori Mal College, hosted an online sensitization workshop “Parakh”, on December 02, 2023, exclusively for the members of CDRT and Prayas, the Enabling Unit of KMC, to get them acquainted with the social construct that is disability, and clear the misleading stereotypes that might hinder their understanding of the same. Started around 07:00 PM, the workshop involved the participants performing various day to day activities while blindfolded, such as pouring water into a glass and drinking it, folding clothes, drawing shapes and figures on paper etc.

This was then followed by a discussion on the myths surrounding disability hosted by the academic wing of CDRT, where important topics and stereotypes such as isolation and social exclusion of disabled people, disability as a result of one’s karma, disabled people having more developed ‘special senses’, etc. were discussed. The activities and the discussions that took place made the participants learn a bit more about disability, its reality and the myths that revolve around it, while it also introduced many to the same.

In its entirety, Parakh served as a fruitful workshop, introduced and familiarised the participants with disability and cleared the common myths surrounding it.
