On 9th February, 2024, Centre for Disability Research and Training organised a Youth Activation Session in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat in the Academic Auditorium and Sports Complex. The event commenced from 10:00 A. M. onwards and was attended by an actively engaging crowd.

The event commenced with a symbolic lamp lighting and an address note by Someshwar Sir’s, setting the tone for an insightful session ahead. It was followed by our esteemed Principal, Mr. Dinesh Kattar. Their intuitive words were an encouragement to the spirit of inclusivity, raising awareness, and echoed with the spirit of collaboration, empowerment, underlining the importance of inclusivity in sports.

Subsequently, representatives from Special Olympics Bharat took the stage to address the audience, shedding light on the organisation’s mission and their work they do in empowering athletes with intellectual disabilities. They provided valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities in the realm of sports. A crucial aspect of the event was the clarification of the distinction between Paralympics and Special Olympics Bharat. While the former focuses on athletes with physical disabilities, the latter is dedicated to athletes with intellectual disabilities. This clarification aimed to promote a better understanding of the diverse needs and abilities within the disabled community.

Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to engage in an interactive session with athletes from Special Olympics Bharat. This session provided a platform for meaningful exchanges and offered insights into the experiences and achievements of the athletes.
The event transitioned to the sports ground, where participants actively engaged in sports activities alongside Special Olympics Bharat athletes. This hands-on experience fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork while promoting the values of inclusivity and diversity in sports.

Upon returning to the auditorium, participants were honoured with certificates and special pins/badges from Special Olympics Bharat as a token of appreciation for their participation and support in promoting inclusivity and equality in sports.

In conclusion, the collaboration event between Olympics and disability, organised in partnership with Special Olympics Bharat, served as a platform for fostering awareness, understanding, and inclusivity in sports. Through insightful addresses, interactive sessions, and engaging activities, the event successfully highlighted the importance of providing equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate and excel in sports.
